Determining your handmade product's wholesale value? Small business wishes to stock my jewelry.?
I make earrings out of my home by hand and have recently been contacted by a small indie business that wishes to sell them. They are requesting a wholesale price and have set a quantity they would like to purchase to start.
How do I figure my wholesale price?. I have my retail already calculated and have what my profits are from that, as well as how much it takes to make each set of earrings.
I've heard for small gifts the wholesale percent is usually 50% of retail. Does this seem correct?.
Should I give them a quote of 50% off my retail price and include my costs into that figure, or not?.

Quoting is a horrible thing & people have such a perception about the quote - if it is too low it may be junk, too high they may look elsewhere.
My friend makes earrings by hand - she sells them to me at cost $3 a pair, and I see the same set selling for $20 in the shop.
I suggest you work out the cost, and mark it up 50% from that. Ignore how much you sell them for retail, they are too different things.
If you have a contract will you be able to mass purchase more cheaply?
I would also include a proviso in the quote, that these prices are for the set quote and prices may be subject to change in future.
